Stephanie has over 30 years of experience in working with children, adolescents and adults in the areas of dance, fitness and creative movement as well as in the areas of mental and behavioral health services. Working with children, adults and families through creative movement has always been her passion. After college, becoming a mom and working full time in various teaching roles, she is extremely excited to have the opportunity to fulfill her life long dream. Today she works full-time for Bethany Children's Home and she is a fitness instructor with a combined 30 years of dance, fitness and teaching experience, operating her own studio.
Stephanie's dance training began locally at the age of 5 in the disciplines of ballet, jazz and tap. She loved the excitement of performing and competing! She started teaching dance at the age of 15 and soon discovered that she loved every moment of teaching and watching her students develop and perform!
While studying at Penn State University for her degree in Behavioral Science, Stephanie found herself becoming interested in learning more about how art therapy, dance therapy and creative movement activities can assist in enhancing the mental and physical health of children and adults. She enjoyed learning how the mind and body really work together in achieving an over-all state of wellness. After obtaining her degree, she spent several years working at Philhaven Hospital in the Child & Adolescent Inpatient and Partial Hospitalization Programs providing individual, group and family therapy. She soon found herself feeling an overwhelming sense of despair at the amount of children she worked with who were suffering from low self-esteem, feeling like they weren’t good at anything and feeling as though no one cared about them. She became increasingly more driven to follow her dream!
In 2001 & 2004, Stephanie gave birth to her two beautiful girls, Gracie and Rowan. In an attempt to get fit and lose the baby weight after becoming a mom, she began studying the mechanics of Pilates and Yoga. She quickly discovered that much like how she always enjoyed the art of ballet, she really enjoyed the graceful, controlled movements, enhanced concentration and peace of mind she received through practicing Pilates and Yoga. Once her daughters were old enough to begin dance training, Stephanie excitedly got back into the hobby of dance and fitness instructing!
Stephanie's mission is to provide a fun, safe, nurturing environment where children, adults and families can learn about the art of dance, have fun with creative movement and increase their overall physical and emotional well-being. It is her hope that she and her students can have fun together discovering strengths, revealing talent, increasing confidence and “growing with grace”.
